The concept for this parade was inspired my recent move to Grand Rapids and my scarce knowledge of the city and its art scene, namely the event that dominated the city once a year, ArtPrize. This city-wide arts competition awards over half a million in prizes determined by public vote, and many of the works in the Top 10 pay homage to Grand Rapids' identity.

In an effort to pledge my allegiance to my new town in this context, I put out a call for local and national artists to join me in a parade that celebrated my limited knowledge of Grand Rapids, namely Wikipedia-gathered facts about the city's flora and fauna as well as its much-touted manufacturing industry. Artists from Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Greenville, South Carolina joined me in creating Grand Rapids-themed costumes and props. Artist Danielle Kimzey handed out hand-painted smiles, and we all chanted, "We're Proud of You!"

Role: Pelz was the chief animator and organizer of the parade. She also made a cumbersome spotted trout costume.
