Portfolio > Community Collaborations

This piece was a collaboration between five recently released inmates and was created for the Bernice Public Sculpture Garden in Little Rock, AR.

"Cloud of Witnesses" refers to a lineage of Old Testament characters whose faithful example served to encourage struggling believers.Reflecting upon individuals, or “witnesses,” whose support and examples encouraged them upon re-entry, these former inmates each sculpted an object that signifies that individual. I then cast multiples of each object and then suspended them on cables to form a cloud. Beneath the cloud were staked signs with portraits of each of the women, layered with their words dedicating their work to their "witness." "The Re-Entry" 'zines were distributed at the opening event.

Role: Pelz was involved in the conception, facilitation, object-casting, painted signs, and installation of the project.
